Movie Trailer of the Day: Flashy first trailer for Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann’s movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, starring Tobey Maguire as narrator Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Gatsby.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The Great Gatsby follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings.
Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. Okay, Unpopular Opinion Time:
I disliked The Great Gatsby when I read it.
I know, I know, shock, horror, how could I, etc. etc. I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe I was too young when I read it, maybe I missed the point, maybe I should give it another try. I also sort of disliked Lord of the Flies and 1984 so what the hell do I know. I think it may have to do with it being assigned reading… I love reading on my own terms but when someone else tells me what to read and what to think about it, I dunno, I kind of… hate it.

I wasn’t really planning to see this… but now… It’s Baz Lurhmann.
And…
They cast Amitabh “King of Bollywood” Bachchan in it.
Yep, gonna have to see that.
Not sure what’s up with the decision to play this in 3D though
